The Department of Sociology at the University of Zurich looks back on more than 50 years of active research and teaching. It is one of the leading empirically oriented institutes in Switzerland and Europe. The basic understanding is based on theory-driven empirical social research with a strong focus on quantitative methods.
Your responsibilities
We are seeking a PhD student dedicated to rigorous quantitative analyses using advanced statistical and causal inference methods.
- Your primary task is to design and implement research designs to (comparatively) study the regional factors hindering or facilitating naturalization among the immigrant population in different countries;
- You will be involved in all aspects of research within the project “Causes, Contexts, Consequences: Understanding Immigrant Integration through Citizenship,” funded by an SNSF Starting Grant;
- You will work closely with the principal investigator and a postdoctoral researcher on several projects. Additionally, you will have time, and we expect you to develop your independent PhD project related to our main research topic.
Your profile
- A proactive, collaborative, and creative mindset, with a passion for research in social sciences;
- Master's degree (or close to completion) in social sciences such as Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Social Psychology, Computational Social Science or related fields;
- Graduate-level knowledge of advanced causal inference methods and applied statistics;
- Graduate-level knowledge and/or a demonstrated strong interest in the field of migration and integration;
- Experience in using statistical software such as Stata, R, or Python;
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project team members and external stakeholders alike;
- Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken;
- German language skills are an asset.
