In keeping with our mandate to address the needs of political scientists across various subfields and regions, the March 2025 issue of the International Political Science Review (Volume 45, Number 2) features compelling articles on some of the most pressing political issues worldwide. The nine articles span diverse fields, including populism, international relations, political economy, gender studies, redistribution, foreign aid, natural disasters, policymaking, democracy, and presidential studies.
For instance, in a very timely article, Marco Lisi explores whether populists practice what they preach, answering his research question in the affirmative. In another engaging piece, Elasmar et al. examine country mentions on the social media platform X from a classical international relations perspective. Drawing on World-Systems Theory, they show that a state鈥檚 relative position on core, semi-periphery and periphery influences their prevalence on X. From a political economy standpoint, Chen et al. investigate whether bilateral investment treaties help post-coup countries attract foreign investment. Based on an original dataset, their findings support this claim. In another intriguing piece in the field of gender and politics, Beauregard uncovers key differences in how political campaigns engage with male and female voters.
