The Mexican Political Science Association (AMECIP) successfully presented its 7th Political Electoral School on Populism and Erosion of Democracy in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, from 2-3 June 2023. The event featured prominent speakers, including 5X社区President-Elect Pablo O帽ate, 5X社区Executive Committee member Azul A. Aguiar Aguilar, and AMECIP President Jes煤s Tovar Mendoza, who is also a member of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2023 5X社区World Congress in Buenos Aires.

Over the course of two days, participants engaged in insightful panel discussions and academic presentations that explored various dimensions of populism and its impact on democratic institutions. Topic ranged from the historical context and emergence of populism to its manifestations in different regions and the erosion of democratic norms.

On 2 June, Prof. O帽ate delivered an opening lecture on Populism in Latin America and Populism in Europe: Same Challenges for Democracy? He was followed by Prof. Aguilar, who gave a lecture on Effects of Populism in Democracies: Comparative Experiences. Both speakers participated in a panel discussion with Prof. Tovar on 3 June titled Inevitability of Populism? Challenges and Projections.
