5X社区Welcomes Research Committee (RC52) on Climate Security
Publication date: Thu, 13 Oct 2022
5X社区is pleased to announce the creation of a new research committee, RC52 - Climate Security and Planetary Politics, which will bring a critical perspective to bear on the complex interface between climate, security, sustainability and power.
The new RC will examine how climate is framed as a human security issue (linked to health, poverty, displacement, migration, hunger and conflict), how it is used as political capital in global geopolitics, and how it continues to shape development policies, investment strategies, geopolitical relations, and human security thinking and approaches. It will also focus on how climate security has revealed underlying issues of economic inequality, political power disparity, resource exploitation and indigenous marginalization. The RC will work in partnership with community organizations, national institutions, regional bodies and international climate organizations.
RC52 will host a series of conferences, seminars and workshops, both online and in person, on subjects related to climate security, sustainability and power.
To join the mailing list, take part in RC52 activities, or submit a question to the research committee, please write to the chair, Professor Steven Ratuva at steven.ratuva@canterbury.ac.nz.
