Junior Workshop on Historical Political Economy

Junior Workshop on Historical Political Economy

Wed, 25 Jun 2025 - Wed, 25 Jun 2025

Madrid, Espagne

The Junior Workshop on Historical Political Economy (HPE) will be held on 25 June 2025, at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, at the Puerta de Toledo campus in Madrid. This workshop provides a unique and focused platform for junior scholars (PhD candidates, Postdocs, and Assistant Professors) to present their research and engage with peers and senior scholars sharing similar interests.

HPE is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field that brings together social scientists interested in historical data and the study of political and economic institutions. This workshop aims to strengthen the HPE community in Europe by fostering connections and collaboration among scholars.

Call for Papers

We invite submissions from junior scholars exploring Historical Political Economy in its broadest sense. We welcome diverse topics and methodologies within HPE, with the only requirement being that the research includes data related to historical events. Substantive topics include but are not limited to democratization, state and nation building, war and political violence, development, colonialism, or authoritarianism. Approximately 12 papers will be selected for presentation. The workshop will feature both junior and senior scholars as discussants, offering participants the opportunity to receive tailored feedback and engage in in-depth discussions.

The workshop will take place the day before the official EPSA 2025 conference. While the Junior HPE Workshop is independent of the EPSA conference, its timing provides a convenient opportunity to attend both events. Please note that registration for EPSA 2025 must be completed separately, following the conference's regulations.

Funding

We plan to cover food and drinks for all presenters and discussants during the workshop. Unfortunately, we are unable to fund participants' travel expenses, though limited support may be available on a case-by-case basis.
