The was held virtually from 17 June to 12 July 2024.
The online format helped us to welcome students from abroad to participate in the Summer School despite their location. The summer school offers a wide range of basic and advanced courses in the most innovative research methods and techniques within the social sciences.
The IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School offered an intensive course of three hours per day taught by an international instructor, followed by a two-hour laboratory session led by a teaching assistant from the University of Missouri. During the classes, the instructor encouraged participants to share examples from their research interests and to apply their own datasets for analysis. The lab sessions involved group work reinforcing the theoretical concepts covered in class and fostering active and collaborative learning.
A total of 11 people registered and participated in the 5Xcourse Quantitative Modeling for the Social Sciences. The academic degrees of 5Xcourse participants included Bachelor's degrees (5), Master's degrees (3), and Ph.D. (3).

The 8th Annual IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science was held virtually from 5-30 June 2023.
The 2023 edition was organized in collaboration with the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, Mexico, the International Political Science Association and the Graduate Program in Political and Social Sciences of the UNAM.
The online modality helped to welcome students from abroad to participate in the Summer School despite their location. This approach was successful, as the course was attended by students from South Korea, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, the United States, and different states in Mexico. The IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School offered an intensive course of 3 hours per day taught by an international instructor, followed by a 2-hour laboratory session led by a teaching assistant. Sessions were both theoretical and practical to provide a fulfilling academic experience with the highest quality standards. The instructors encouraged students to provide examples of their research interests and to use their databases for analysis. Meanwhile, the laboratory sessions consisted of group assignments that put into practice what had been taught earlier in the class. And each morning, before the theoretical session, the instructor answered any questions that might have arisen during these group assignments.
16 people registered and participated in the 5Xcourse Quantitative Modeling for the Social Sciences. Academic degrees of 5Xcourse participants: Bachelor's degree (5), Master's degree (10), Ph.D. (1).

5th IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science

The fifth Annual IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School in Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science was held virtually from 26 October to 6 November 2020. In this edition, 5XFLACSO Mexico´s Summer School allied with UNAM´s Political and Social Sciences Postgraduate Program, thus reaching a broader group of social sciences practitioners and therefore achieving greater student participation in comparison to previous years.
Three intensive courses of 3 hours daily sessions were offered by a recognized team of international instructors. There were also two hours of laboratory sessions led by teaching assistants. Participants received theoretical and practical training and an opportunity to discuss topics related to their specific research.
In the evenings, the instructors gave lectures on specific and current academic topics, such as: "Researching during the crisis", "Why do we need historical political science and how should we combine historical research with systematic social science research?”, and finally, “Democracy in Crisis - Recovering Political Discourse”.
The Summer School was attended by 28 students: 13 female and 15 male.
In addition to the three international courses offered during the two weeks of this edition, twelve short introductory courses were taught in Spanish by eleven local professors.

4th IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science

The fourth Annual IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School in Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science was held at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences in Mexico, from June 10 to June 21, 2019.
It was attended by 50 students, mainly from Mexico. Enrollment was represented by 55.2% of women and 44.7% by men.
The fourth edition of the summer school offered a program of eight introductory one-week courses and four intensive two-week courses, where students received theoretical and practical training. They also participated in conferences, seminars and social activities organized by the local committee, integrated by Irma Méndez, Georgina Flores, Rodrigo Salazar and Jacqueline Plascencia.
The eight introductory one-week courses that were taught with great success are:

The intensive two-week courses took place from Monday to Friday and lasted around four hours in the morning and two additional hours of computer lab sessions, to add the use of specific software to the curriculum. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to discuss their own research interests with instructors, and receive special advice about their specific needs. There was a coffee break in the middle of the day.

The late afternoon special lectures by 5Xinstructors represented a great opportunity to examine the use of different methodologies on specific and substantial academic issues, as it was the case with “The fingerprints of fraud: evidence from Mexico 1988, presidential election”. Furthermore, the instructors also offered evening lectures on more practical academic matters, such as: "How to be published", “How to apply to grad schools and postdocs in the US’" and “How social scientist may make use of history.
The fourth edition of the IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School in Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science ended with the distribution of certificates and a brindis which gave everyone the opportunity to networking and plan their participation to the next summer school.

3rd IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science

The 3rd IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School was held at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) in Mexico City from June 4 to 15, 2018. This year’s Summer School offered an intensive two-week program of four courses on quantitative and qualitative methods, including mixed methods, survey analysis, data science, and quantitative public policy analysis.
The 47 participants included graduate and undergraduate students, academics, and professionals interested in receiving theoretical and practical training in research methods. According to our satisfaction survey, the overwhelming majority of participants (85%) found the courses challenging, and would recommend them to their colleagues.

After a successful first edition, once again the Latin American Faculty for Social Sciences hosted the IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science from 10 to 21 July, 2017.
During two weeks the IPSA-FLACSO Mexico Summer School offered high-quality, cutting-edge and advanced training in qualitative and quantitative social science methods to more than 60 participants from Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, France and Mexico. The summer school also gave the opportunity to engage in discussion sessions, group assignments and other activities. This year participants attended late-afternoon lectures on how methods are improving the quality of research in the field. The lectures were:

1st Annual 5XSummer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science

After its successful presentation in several countries around the world, the 5XSummer School on Concepts, Methods and Techniques in Political Science was held for the first time in FLACSO (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales), México from June 6 to 17, 2016.
The school offered cutting-edge, advanced training in qualitative and quantitative social science methods under highly experienced international faculty from the U.S. and Europe, and it provided 65 participants with rigorous training in state-of-the-art research methods.
Spanning a period of two weeks, the IPSA-FLACSO México Summer School 2016 gave scholars as well as masters and PhD students in México and other Latin American countries a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge of social science research methods, discuss research interests, network, and participate in an evening lecture series. The evening lectures saw each of the instructors discuss their research, and Mexican academics led the discussions concerning substantive and methodological implications. FLACSO México also offered a math refresher course at no extra cost to participants intent on acquiring the minimum level required for each of the six courses offered.
